Many parents do know that their child is not doing well at school but they do not accept that their child has some problems either in studies or behaviour. So, they keep postponing their efforts in searching for a solution. Most parents or children are ashamed of discussing their problem with others. There is a stigma in society against failure of children at schools. Added to this is the ‘no detention policy ‘of the Govt., which literally pushes the child to the next grade even though the child has not achieved grade level competence. In some cases, even the school teachers’ attitude may result in sweeping the matter under the carpet, resulting in a delay in approaching the right person/institution to know their child’s problem/s and to find solutions.
MISCOCEPTIONS
Some parents think that their child’s poor performance at school is due to lack of memory, laziness, and/or disinterest in studies or over indulgence in play. You may be wrong. Even some doctors and elders at home may think that you are over reacting to your child’s dismal performance and may advice you to be patient till your child out grows the problems. They may be wrong.
